VACUUM is the title of our long-term project. We use the word to describe crisis and dilemma moments, yet its neutrality also suggests the possibility of transformation. Supported by female friendship, we personify priestess in our creations and inspire our creations by summoning women's cultural heritage worldwide, with mythical creatures such as mermaids, monsters, birds, etc.

Fictional narratives of women and the sea is our main direction. To construct another imaginative structure, language is considered as a matter in the universe that lives by repetition and can transform and regenerate. By exploring the topics of human nature and nature, we reflect on issues of ecology and sustainability. Our practice aims to construct a matriarchal structure of imagination and action.

The project structure is symbolized as an infinity; It is not static, but a dynamic ongoing process of conversion-generation. The loops of the two sides represent respective philosophical and emotional themes. The artworks form an organic ecosystem in their spacetime, giving birth to each other. They construct a loose but supportive structure like layers of ripples through their independent materiality and mediums, such as photography, performance, etc.

We are a female artist duo based in the UK and China. Inspired by the spontaneous online practice of Made-in-China Feminism and the matriarchy studies of ancient China within the English-speaking knowledge system, we are committed to constructing a matriarchal cosmos across time and space. With an artist-curator apporach, our practice summoned transcultural fairy tales, legends, and fictions by female and queer creators within the body of female friendship, and then materialized in artistic rituals of diverse media such as writing, installation, and performance. Regarding our collaboration, it breeds a relational ethics of honesty, trust, companionship, and growth to reimagine how the world came into being and how it will continue through the possibilities of female bonding.
